Have a really tricky surface to paint? Our Ultra Grip allows for Fusion™ to adhere to surfaces that are typically not for painting such as a lacquered surface, laminate, metal or glass.

This product adheres to the impossible. In particular, melamine and thermafoil cabinetry. Milky when wet, dries translucent with very good clarity.  For optimum adhesion, clean the surface to be painted with T.S.P.

Because Ultra Grip is so strong, it can hold more texture, so if you apply it heavily with a brush, you will see brush marks, so apply thin and sparingly with a sponge

  • Ultra Grip Product Description. Some super tricky surfaces require an even stronger adhesion provided by our Fusion Ultra Grip. Laminate, lacquered or high gloss surfaces formerly deemed to be nearly impossible to paint are no longer impossible with the use of our Fusion Ultra Grip. You can even paint metal, glass and even some plastics with it! Made with pure resin, Ultra Grip will adhere much better than paint which contains other ingredients such as pigments and minerals.  Ultra Grip is considered an adhesive primer, and allows for Fusion Mineral Paint to adhere to surfaces that are typically not for painting, such as melamine or thermo-foil Fusion adheres well to most clean  plastics, metal, and glass without requiring Ultra Grip.

Milky when wet, dries translucent with very good clarity.  For optimum adhesion, clean surface with Fusion's TSP Alternative prior to application.

  • How to Use Ultra Grip. Apply a very thin coat of Ultra Grip after you have lightly sanded where needed and cleaned your surface. Be sure to remove any wax or Pledge that may have been preexisting as those coatings really like to repel anything applied.

Because Ultra Grip is so strong, it can hold more texture.  If you apply heavily with a brush you will see more brush marks, so apply thin and sparingly with a sponge or Fusion Applicator Pad.

  • Dry Time.  Allow Ultra Grip to dry for 12 hours for best results on those super tricky surfaces, then continue with Fusion Mineral Paint. If you do not wish to wait the 12 hours, in most cases you will be fine painting just after a couple of hours, however if your surface is exceptionally tricky and slick, when you add another coat of paint over top of the Ultra Grip, you may re-active it as you have not allowed it enough time to cure. Clean up with water.

This is a water-based coatings with no harmful chemicals or solvents, and it cures through the evaporation of water. If you apply another coat of “water” (paint) of top within 12 hours, you’re not allowing the Ultra Grip enough time to do its job. If you allow for the proper curing time, you won’t be disappointed! Think of starting your project at night, applying your Ultra Grip and then coming back in the morning to apply your paint.

Note. Ultra Grip is not intended to seal in stains. We recommend Zinser Clear Shellac to seal in stains or knots.
